What Will Happen if We Never Stop Immigration?Article by Frosty WooldridgeMay 28, 2004Published on The Washington Dispatch. Last week, a college professor asked me, “Doesn’t this immigration topic depress you? I turned away from it because it was causing me to focus too much on the issues here in Southern California. Since I’m living in the heart of this problem, I find it depressing.” She lives in Los Angeles. “First, I'm less optimistic than you are in that I don't think we're going to stop this massive immigration invasion,” she said. “Make no mistake. Mexico is colonizing California. No politician, except Tom Tancredo of Colorado and Charles Norwood of Georgia, seems to take the problem seriously. So, let's just say that the people are going to come and will not be stopped. Then, what can we do to make the invasion result in a sustainable society?” “Regarding creating a live-able society,” I said. “There is no way to make it live-able. Why do you think they’re fleeing China, India and Mexico to come here? Look at Bangladesh with 129 million people in a landmass the size of Ohio. What is attractive about India’s 1.1 billion or China’s 1.3 billion? We’ll have to deal with 200 million more people by mid century. Do you know how many people that is? Do you realize we will have surpassed our ‘carrying capacity’ limits? Can you imagine the gridlock with 20 million more people living in California? That’s at least five to eight million more cars on their roads. How about air pollution, species extinction, sprawl and global warming?” “Let’s disregard those coming realities,” she said, “and deal with what we’ll have to do with 200 million more people in the United States.” “Okay,” I said. “What are the questions that need answering?” “How many more schools do we need?” she said. “Should we separate the English and non-English speaking students in classes so that neither group suffers because there is no way we can teach dozens of different languages? What would be the costs? How many more hospitals do we need? How many more doctors, nurses and emergency rooms do we need? How much more infrastructure is needed to accommodate the crowds? How will we deal with the diseases they bring into our country? How much more water will we need and where will we find it? Electricity? Freeways? Housing? How many more jobs will we need to keep these masses employed? How many more preschools? How many more stores and theaters and restaurants will be needed to accommodate the massive population? How much more farmland for crops will we need? We’ve got 18 million Americans unemployed today. How will we employ our poorest citizens with a constant annual flow of two million immigrants?” “My God,” I said, “There’s no end to what it would take to support THAT many people.” “Not to mention that it will mean a 10-year waiting period to get into Yellowstone or Grand Canyon National Parks for one weekend of your entire life,” she said. “Beaches, lakes and rivers will burst with wall to wall people.” “Maybe, the only way people will realize that the money they are saving by hiring illegals as well as legal immigrants is a mere pittance compared to the real costs to society if we build all the facilities needed to maintain a functioning society,” she said. “Then after the infrastructure problem is solved, what American values are we going to teach these people and expect they follow?” “What if they enclave to such a degree that they follow their ‘traditions’ and ‘values’ of their cultures?” I asked. “What if they demand female genital mutilation and subjugation of women as a matter of their cultural rights? What about honor killings, horse tripping, cock fighting, dog fighting and animal sacrifice as a daily norm?” “But what if those immigrants voted their traditions into law?” she asked. “We would sink into the Third World of Dark Ages,” I said. “We’d become like what they fled.” “Is that what American citizens want?” I asked. “How far down do we have to go to accommodate the world to spiral ourselves into the abyss?” “One thing is for sure,” she said. “Soon, you’ll pick up the phone to call a business and hear, ‘Press 1 for Spanish, press 2 for English, press 3 for Swahili, press 4 for Arabic.” “Is that what will happen to America?” I asked. “It won’t be our country anymore. It won’t have the quality of life, standard of living or the cohesiveness of a First World country. We won’t be able to speak to one another with multiple languages.” “My immigrant students never respond with any idea of American values beyond "freedom,” she said. “We’re becoming a group of Balkanized states that have nothing in common. The American Dream will not survive. One look at what’s happening to California will show you what’s coming to this country. Our politicians are killing this country with immigration.” “I guess the imminent historian Arnold Toynbee was right,” I said. “An autopsy of history shows that all great nations commit suicide.”
